Dead Wellesley Society
By Nabeela Zoss
CW: unspecified student death
I wonder what happens to the students who die at Wellesley College.
Do they take her off mailing lists? (Or, god forbid, them, off.)
Do the rest of her Google Drive class folders wait in anticipation of the semester she'll never take?
Spring 2019, left half empty, premature primavera.
Do they scrub her name off reports and news articles to keep the printing press squeaky?
Oh, but! Her closest friends can be in charge of hosting her memorial.
Not even a bench, I guess. No, no.. those are reserved for
Donors.
Is she me next?
This poem is meant to be read on a bench. Nabeela Zoss '23 (zoss@mit.edu) attempts to remember our siblings that have slipped away gentle into the good night. From the October 2021 issue.
